Cuba, 2025
by Tony Le
Genuine, spontaneous, fantastic, and priceless described cycling in Cuba with Cyclists for Cultural Exchange. Led by our host Ana and her family, we experienced not just bicycle rides but a slice of Cuban life. The entire trip was rich, rewarding, and humbling. Most Cubans live modestly and utilize the local parks as their living room, an ideal setting for us travelers. There are no walls. I spent an hour observing this dance class at Parque Calisto Garcia in Holguin. It was a front row seat of music, dance, learning, and humanity.
Beautiful sceneries, gorgeous sunsets, tasty tropical fruits, and fresh seafood abound but the winning formula is cycling. Gasoline and cars are expensive therefore there are not many. The occasional buses and taxis are very courteous to cyclists. Ride side by side or in the middle of the road if so desired.

Our stay was only 12 days but the new friendship will last a lifetime. Ana’s home, well, is a home, not a hotel. Her parents prepared the meals and interacted with everyone. Her daughter Kaia played hide and seek, flew paper airplanes, and taught me Spanish.

Many travelers erroneously equate higher cost trips to be superior, but they are building a higher wall to insulate them. Join Cyclists for Cultural Exchange Cuban Tours to experience the real Cuba — with no walls but open doors!
