Portugalicia 2026
A Cycling Tour through Portugal & Spain
Dates: June 9–24, 2026
Overview
Portugalicia 2026 is designed as a cultural and sporting journey by bicycle that will connect Portugal and Spain, offering participants the opportunity to experience both countries through their landscapes, traditions, and hospitality, between June 9 and June 24, 2026, beginning in Porto and concluding in A Coruña. Over more than two weeks, riders will explore both the north of Portugal and Galicia, alternating between coastal and inland routes that highlight the natural, historical, and cultural richness of the region.
Route and Experience:
The first part of the route will focus on northern Portugal. Participants will sail up the Douro River, cycle through the vineyards along the scenic N-222, and traverse the Alvão Natural Park, visiting towns such as Amarante, Braga, and Viana do Castelo. Crossing into Spain, the journey continues through Galicia, from Monção to A Coruña, with stops in Ribadavia, Ourense, Pontevedra, Santiago de Compostela, Pontedeume, Ferrol, and Cedeira. Some of the accommodation will be provided in unique establishments — from monasteries and spa hotels to pilgrims’ hostels and charming hotels — selected for their cultural value and authenticity.
Cultural Highlights:
In addition to its scenic and sporting appeal, Portugalicia 2026 will emphasize the cultural and gastronomic identity of each region visited. Riders will discover UNESCO World Heritage sites, traditional markets, and historic towns, while enjoying the renowned local cuisine and wines of Portugal and Galicia. The tour will end on June 24, coinciding with the celebration of St. John’s Night in A Coruña, the shortest and most symbolic night of the year. Each year, more than 100,000 people gather along Orzán Beach to light bonfires and watch fireworks over the Atlantic — a fitting and memorable conclusion to this international cycling journey.
